What Are the Six Swimming Levels?

Frogbridge’s Millstone Township, NJ day camp swimming program follows the American Red Cross six-level progression system, taking campers from water introduction through fitness swimming and junior lifeguarding.

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills

Campers learn basic water safety, breath control, and floating techniques in a supportive environment designed for beginners.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Students develop foundational swimming strokes and treading water skills while building confidence in deeper water.

Level 3: Stroke Development

Campers refine freestyle and backstroke techniques while learning elementary backstroke and scissor kick.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement

Swimmers master breaststroke, butterfly introduction, and improve endurance through longer distance swimming.

Level 5: Stroke Refinement

Advanced swimmers perfect all four competitive strokes and develop flip turn techniques for efficient lap swimming.

Level 6: Fitness Swimmer

Swimmers focus on cardiovascular fitness, advanced stroke mechanics, and competitive swimming techniques.

After all levels have been completed, campers have the opportunity to learn junior lifeguarding skills, preparing them for a future aquatics position!

The Frogbridge Aquatic Staff is committed to the care and supervision of all swimmers and is composed of Red Cross Water Safety Instructors, certified lifeguards, pool aides, group leaders, supervisors and general counselors. By always having an abundance of staff, we are keeping campers safe in, on and near the water. Our staff is specially trained to care for campers of all different age groups and levels of swimming, ensuring personalized instruction that meets each child’s needs.

Water Watchers

Every staff member plays an important role in our aquatics program. While on-site, each teacher, counselor and assistant must focus on nothing but campers and the water. These “water watchers” will be assigned to designated locations around our pools to provide extra sets of eyes and ears, ensuring that nothing is overlooked and campers get all the personal attention they deserve while enjoying their time in our pools!

Water Activities and Special Events

Water activities include water polo, water basketball, dunk tank days, lakefront swimming, and the famous Wild n’ Wacky Water Day featuring inflatables! Throughout the summer, themed water events create excitement and encourage campers to apply their swimming skills in recreational settings.

Aquatic Complex Facilities

All campers are always provided with clean, fresh towels poolside. Other amenities include poolside restrooms and changing areas, chilled water fountains and shaded areas with umbrellas and poolside seating. Our four heated swimming pools are climate controlled and equipped with modern filtration systems, safety equipment and teaching aids.
